Influence of the laser cutting front geometry on the striation formation analysed with high-speed synchrotron X-ray imaging

Abstract The generation of low surface roughness the cut edge during laser beam cutting is a challenge. striation pattern, which determines roughness, can be distinguished into regular and interrupted striations, latter resulting in an increased roughness. In order to analyse their formation, space- time-resolved front geometry melt film thickness were captured fusion aluminium sheets with framerate 1000 Hz by means high-speed synchrotron X-ray imaging. comparison contours fronts for result und striations shows that contour fluctuates significantly more case striations. This leads strong fluctuation local angle incidence. addition, average incidence decreases, results increase absorbed irradiance.
